Until a year ago, Aishwarya was unable to walk or even stand on her feet without support, owing to a severe disability in her limbs from the hips down. Gnawing poverty made it impossible for her parents to afford the expensive corrective surgery. A kind-hearted person’s post on social media about her plight triggered action from Vidyaranya Hospital in Mysore, resulting in corrective surgery being carried out on Aishwarya, free of cost, by renowned orthopedic surgeons, Dr. K. Ravindranath and Dr. Shreyas Alva.
The joy on Aishwarya’s face and the gratitude in her parents’ eyes propelled the doctors and the hospital to come to a resolution of carrying out more corrective orthopedic surgeries for underprivileged children with disabilities, at no cost at all.
Thus, VIFDA took birth, bringing together a group of doctors who provide children suffering from orthopedic disabilities and belonging to financially weak families, with a chance to get back on their feet.
Till date, VIFDA has impacted the lives of quite a few children, releasing them from crippling disabilities, and enabling them to have a better and happier childhood.
Our Team
VIFDA is a non-profit organisation, formed by a team of doctors and hospitals, for helping children with bone deformities hailing from economically weaker section of the society. We conduct surgeries to correct bone deformities in children, free of cost.

What We Do
We visit schools for the differently abled and identify children with orthopedic disabilities that can be corrected through surgery.
We also conduct screening camps in different parts of Karnataka to identify children who can be helped through surgery, counsel the parents, and educate them about their child’s disability and how it can be corrected and to what extent.
We then conduct corrective surgeries on the identified children and help them rehabilitate, providing all the necessary orthotic aids/appliances, and physiotherapy.
How You Can Help
Although we wish to provide help to all the children who require it, the number is restricted due to shortage of funds for conducting surgeries.
While the doctors conduct surgeries free of cost, the running cost of hospitals and consumables require funds.
We also wish to reach out to children with orthopaedic disabilities living in different parts of the country.

Bibi Ruquia
11 year old Bibi Ruquia was born with deformed legs, but was noticed only at the age of 6, which gradually progressed to the point where walking became difficult because the knees were knocking against each other. The daughter of a security guard and a homemaker, Ruquia was screened at one of VIFDA’s camps in Mysore in November 2018. She underwent surgery using growth modulation technique to straighten her legs, and with the help of focused physiotherapy, Ruquia can now walk without support.
Paramesha
Paramesha, a 10 year old tribal boy was born with clubfeet. His parents work as farm hands in a village near Mysore, and being strong believers of superstition, had subjected Paramesha to painful, quack methods of treatment. His plight was noticed by a philanthropist who referred him to VIFDA. After initial tests and counselling by the doctors, Paramesha underwent corrective surgery in January 2019 and is now back on his feet!
